Nest App Reviews

So far so good

Just bought 3 nest cams and set them up in my house today. Picture and sound are good. Better on my phone than my computer. Night vision is good also. No complaints here!

Nest Protect cannot reset wifi

This is more a review of the product than the app, although the recent software updates are terrible as well. The Eco mode is anything but - the thermostat is constantly turning on heat in an empty house, wasting energy. The Away mode was much better and more reliable. The other problem is I recently changed my wifi password for security reasons. When checking how to update my Nest Protects to new settings, the initial instructions were to change my wifi password back. Duh, not happening - I changed it on purpose! The only way to set to new wifi is to remove the Protect from nest account, reset, take down, and reinstall completely. For each one. Really dumb, especially for a premium priced product.

Step backward

Previously when you went in app to adjust your temperature preferences, it showed you your indoor humidity and the outdoor temperature. Removing the outdoor temperature is stupid - I use it to make choices about indoor settings and energy use! If the outdoor unit says it is 19 F I may wish to only heat to 67 to avoid heat pump using expensive Aux heat - likewise if it is 64 I may be ok with 70 F.

Have I installed a portal?

Im scared the Russians will hack into my phone through the thermos.

Still no Action bubbles ??

The time line is great. But we still dont have the action bubbles/icons for all the gray dots that signify movement has been detected. It is close to being perfect, just need more action bubbles please. No one has time to watch every single gray dot.

When it works, it works well

Please fix it. My internet is working fine yet it says offline 60% of the time. Please?

Great!

Works good, no issues, does what its supposed to.

Mr/Mrs

Brilliant invention! One of the best purchases we have ever made.

Zoom used to work, no longer works

Zoom/Enhance almost works VERY occasionally. I pinch to zoom, touch the "+" icon, and almost always get the error message "You must zoom in to use the Enhance feature." Even when it does enhance, it re-zooms to the extreme, requiring me to pinch to unzoom to the zoom you originally. Thats why I say it almost works occasionally. It never works correctly, ever, any more. Used to work all the time when using the old Dropcam app. Nest used to work until a recent update. This was in my opinion the whole selling point of a camera that did not have mechanical zoom. With zoom not working, I never would have purchased, and thankfully have not purchased another one yet. Now Im looking for a camera and software that works.

Tech support is a complete joke....

...and, the "user guide" is nonexistent. The only information in the package is how wonderful and "smart" the app is. It is impossible to "learn" the routine of a person working an irregular work schedule, and I wish I could turn it OFF. So, back to my first question: where is the user guide? If its so smart, why does my furnace not turn on when its too cold outside for the heat pump to be of any use. Why is it 36.5 degrees in my house if its so smart. I need to be able to change to "emergent heat" mode so I can turn on the furnace when there is a problem of the units communicating or if I want to ramp up the heat in my house. I could easily do that with my $35, 25 year old thermostat. Where can I find out how to do that? Not in the nonexistent "user guide". Simple! Just talk to someone from the "nest" company. Well, after searching the app and the website for 20 minutes, I googled and FINALLY found a number. So, here I sit in my garage, in my warm car after driving home from my night job. And Ive been on hold for 70 minutes. The music is snappy, but is getting a bit tiring, as are the commercials telling me about the great website and widgets if Id just go online with my question. My question/issue does not fit any of their canned question/simple answer scenarios. Meanwhile, the next opening for service is more than 24 hours from now.

Ba humbug

The app works fine. The product is the problem. It turns on even when set to away. It loses connection, when all other connected items in home are working properly. Adds odd temperature settings that have never been made. For instance, it likes to add a temperature change to 58 degrees around 2am, basically turning the heat off in the middle of the night so that you wake up freezing. No matter how many times I delete the added change, it adds it back

what a mistake

Have a dropcam Pro and just switched to nest app. That action caused a tremendous decrease in picture quallity. It was like going from present day to the dark ages. If you guys do not fix this and quickly this whole system will be junk!!!! Huge mistake!!!!!!!! Why would Nest put out such trash?

Just in time for winter...

Something seems to have broken with geofencing, auto-away, and multiples devices. Please take a look at the Reddit thread about this because many others are also experiencing it. My Nests never go into eco/away mode even when all users and their phones are away from the house. This option is mostly what saves me money on my utilities, but it stopped working.

Paid for itself I one season.

I love my best!

Love it get it if your a nest owner

See i live in a big house so I have 5 thermostat 19 cams and 19 smoke detector Its great

Scrolls too fast...

Please fix this feature. Scrolls too fast therefore unable to see what was detected for the alert. The old version of the app did not do this. Takes more time to see what the camera "caught". Who has time for that?!

Zoom doesnt work correctly

App used to work, but now the zoom/enhance feature doesnt work. Most of the time it wont let me enhance after zooming in, and when it does, it actually zooms in even further than I want. Panning is also glitchy. Good camera, crap app.

App fine, product poor

App works ok, but the thermostat is not good. Temperature swings allowed are simply too large for comfort. Wish I had my old manual thermostat back - it kept temperatures in a comfortable range.

The connective tissue of a smarter home

Works very well from anywhere in the world and does so smoothly and swiftly. Integrates the multiple, essential protective and energy saving devices - lights! cameras! & action!: the latter being purview of thermostats, smoke & CO detectors working in concert with the first two and with lots of other compatible hardware - all making a house into a home, a home which is safer, more convenient and more comfortable and smarter.

No

I hate this app. I liked the Dropcam app, but when I bought a new camera, they forced me to add it with the nest app. This app is so annoying on my phone, I really want to be able to use the Dropcam app with this. I feel like what you think is useful is different from what you were users think is useful.
